The Malka Institute of Neuroscience and Disease is the largest, most sophisticated, and diverse medical specialty practice of its kind in the Tampa Bay Region serving seven hospitals and three counties. The physicians of the M.I.N.D. are certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. They have served on various hospital and literature review panels, as expert witnesses and pharmaceutical consultants, and have been featured on television, radio, and newspaper. The physicians of the M.I.N.D. have received various accolades: The USF Outstanding Clinical Attending Award, Who's Who, National Board of Medical Examiners diplomat, record three years in a row 100th percentile scoring in nationally administered examinations, American Academy of Neurology Scholarship Award for Academy Proceedings, and the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.
The M.I.N.D. provides both conservative care and state of the art care including neurosurgical assessments and second opinons for patients of all ages with congenital and toxic-metabolic disorders of the brain, spine, peripheral nerves and muscles, encephalitis, meningitis, and other infectious neurological illnesses, multiple sclerosis, neurological complications of auto-immune diseases, head injuries, spine, pain management, attention deficit and related disorders, psychiatric and counseling issues, disorders of sleep, epilepsy, seizures, visual and other sensory impairments, stroke and carotid disease, brain aneurysms and other vascular malformations of the nervous system, brain and spinal cord tumors, dementia and other cognitive and neurodegenerative processes, Parkinson’s and other movement and balance disorders.
Services offered by the M.I.N.D. include deep brain and vagal nerve stimulators, and shunt programming, cognitive and iq testing, epidurals, nerve blocks, trigger point injections, Botox and other chemodenervation techniques, nerve conduction studies, electromyography, electroencephalography, diagnostic and therapeutic Ommaya, lumbar puncture, MRI, CT, EEG, carotid duplex, transcranial doppler, evoked potential, and sleep study interpretation, nerve and muscle biopsy.
